Mineral Profile
Calcium carbonate — the same mineral that makes up limestone, chalk, and marble. White calcite is pure or nearly pure CaCO3, with a vitreous to waxy luster. Often exhibits double refraction.
Appearance
Soft white to cream, sometimes with faint gray veining. The surface has a silky, almost waxy smoothness after polishing. More matte than marble, warmer than quartz.
